Kratos doesn't need weapons and equipment to be powerful. His power lies in his strength. Kratos in mythology is literally the personification of strength. Kratos even says in the 2018 game that it's not the weapon but the wielder. Also if they wanted us to believe the Norse gods were stronger, they'd have shown us.
