Opinions on 1.2/1.4 tsi engines. Looking to get a newer car for the mrs. Currently has a 2008 Skoda fabia 1.4 tdi. Ideally she wants something the same size but with a bit more power. (About 100bhp+ really would be fine ) Most small cars still seem to offer similar power except fiesta ecoboom and the tsi vag stuff (turbo only), or possibly the Re: Polo 1.2tsi EA211 oil grade. Thinking of switch to 5W30. Fuel consumption is much higher than before the Petronas 5W40. Got a leaking oil separator it seems so at some point going to ditch the oil sooner than expected. Now this is marked VW 504 00, but also covers VW 502 00 but is to be expected.
If you want to match that Ibiza, you’ll need to go for the 109bhp 1.0 TSI 110, which also comes with a six-speed manual gearbox rather than the five-speed you’ll find with the other two engines.
105PS from a 1.2, I make that about 85bhp/ litre which for a forced-induction engine is hardly shattering the world. The engine/ drivetrain is designed for a number of tollerences and has to be able to perform in all of the expected markets; so a 1.2TSI pulling a 1200kg trailer up a 1:8 hill in the Sahara needs to be kept cool and the drivetrain needs to be working within defined tollerences
