I've got a VW Golf, 1.9 TDI, 57 reg, 95k miles. I've just found out that it is likely to need a new turbo soon which could apparently cost up to £800 including labour (took it into a garage and they couldn't find any faults so reckoned a whining noise when lifting off the accelerator that has started recently must be the first sign of the turbo going).
The BEW is an alright engine, the first of the PD engine type (higher injection pressures with more precise timing allowing for better power and lower emissions compared to the ALH). It had cam issues, as does the BRM (found in the 2005.5-2007 Jetta TDI). It's not a "common" problem, it's an inevitable problem.

There is a GTB1756 available on a cast manifold which is pretty much bolt on aside from a bit of pipework tweaking. Darkside sell this as a "budget" kit. The PD150 GT1749 is the best literal bolt on upgrade. As said above PD130/150 injectors will see you around 190-200. Don't need to worry about internals.

Hi, iv had the 1.9 tdi 105 engines 3 times now golf 08, golf plus 57and audi a3 57 and defo these engines are a lot weaker than the old 1.9 tdi 130 before the year 04, the 130 was a solid bullet
