Post-game. There is a two year gap between the end of DAI and the beginning of the events of Trespasser. It makes more sense that the Inquisitior would go on an expedition for simple historical purposes (Jaws of Hakkon) during that time. The Descent begins due to mysterious earthquakes that started right after the breach was closed.
This idea first crossed my mind when I was thinking about the rather sudden spread of red lyrium across Thedas in Dragon Age: Inquisition. As we know, from playing Dragon Age II, red lyrium isn't new. It has existed deep underground in at least one thaig, the Primeval Thaig, since before the first Blight.
Do people dislike the Deep Roads that much? Admittedly, I wasn't a fan in DA:O or DA2, but The Descent felt much better with it, made it more interesting. I do hope the Titans end up being explored.
