This is somewhat understandable on the part of the author. literary fiction is marketed differently/ better than sci-fi and there is still a cultural stigma attached to the sci fi label (though its nonsense). If you want to sell books and be prestigous, you have a better chance of that with the lit fiction label.

Reply. [deleted] • 2 yr. ago. Gravity and the Martian were great realistic sci-fi movies. It’s hard to pick a best sci-fi movie because of the overlap with other genres. For example, guardians of the galaxy is a great comedy/sci-fi movie but if you’re looking at it solely as a sci-fi movie it’s underwhelming.
Cloud Atlas (story taking place simultaneously over many different time periods with a few nice twists and turns) Arrival (huge twist at the end, story about linguist having to attempt communication with aliens) 1899 (new show on Netflix which is a mystery with sci-fi elements and incredibly well-done) Just completed it.
